07 May Tesla’s Home Battery is Coming to Canada
Tesla’s new home battery is coming to Canada in 2016, and its impact on the solar power industry is sure to be nothing less than monumental! The battery system, called the Powerwall, is a lithium-ion device which can be used to store energy from solar panels so that they can effectively provide power even when the Sun isn’t shining, or in the event of a power outage. When connected to the grid, the Powerwall can also store energy from conventional sources.
Two versions of the Tesla Powerwall will be available to Canadian consumers: a 7 kWh model which is priced at $3,000 (USD), and a larger 10 kWh model which is priced at $3,500 (USD). The smaller model is intended for daily use, while the larger and more expensive model is designed to serve primarily as a back-up energy source for dealing with power outages. Both of the battery systems will be distributed in Canada by NRStor Inc. and Opus One Solutions Energy Corp., in accordance with an exclusive agreement with Tesla. Slated to hit store shelves in the first quarter of 2016, the Powerwall is set to invigorate the already-booming solar panel industry by making solar power more reliable than ever before. Needless to say, the future is bright for solar power in Canada!
